This past Labor Day, I went to the beach with my 12 year old son, Raif. As soon as we got there, he ran straight into the ocean.
And it was kind of rough that day. Lots of waves. Different sizes. Coming at him from different directions. At different speeds.
They pushed him and pulled him and some even knocked him down!
It didn't seem to rattle him, though. I guess because he knows that the ocean has waves. It just does.
And though sometimes they knocked him down, I guess he trusted that he had the tools to get back up again.
We are living in scary times. Waves of fear and waves of change —
pushing us and pulling us and knocking us down!
But what if we could know that, like the ocean, life has waves? It just does.
And though sometimes the waves will knock us down
What if we could TRUST that we can have the tools inside of us to get back up again?
My Process:
There was a time in my 20s, when it felt like I was being drowned by life. Inundated with thoughts of lack and shame, I felt lost.
Since then, I started putting a method together that I call my H.A.P.P.Y. toolbox.
H.A.P.P.Y. stands for Harnessing the Awesome Personal Power within YOU.
It's a collection of strategies and practices that help me find my balance in ANY situation. No matter what has knocked me down, I can find a H.A.P.P.Y tool to help me get back up again.
Today, I want to share my S.O.S Technique.
S-O-S
“S” is for Seek — where I search for the core belief that is making me afraid in that moment.
“O” is for Overturn — where I question that belief and turn it around. And the last
“S” is for Speak — where I place my new belief in the center of an affirmation that I will repeat to myself.
(Helpful Hint: Framing the affirmation as a question often makes it easier to receive and believe. Especially in the beginning.)
I’ve been using this S.O.S.system for years and it’s always been helpful to me, but over the past 18 months of this global pandemic, -- it has been life-saving.
Try This:

And then, family, let’s do our best to relax and trust that no matter how crazy the waves might get — and even when they knock us down — we are safe in the Ocean of Life because we have the tools to get back up again.
All my love to you.
